(via The 15th Annual Independent Games Festival Finalists)
The IGF finalists are out! There are tons of great games nominated, including Johann Sebastian Joust, FEZ, and WAY. I’m a little bummed about the gender breakdown for the finalists and judges (per usual), but I’m hoping to see more females represented once the IGF student finalists are released. I’m also conflicted about the fact that so many of the judges have received IGF awards themselves, because despite their undeniable credentials as fantastic game-makers, it’s not the most efficient strategy for rewarding experimentation and innovation.
However, I’m super excited that Joust has been nominated, because it’s a physical game without any screens. Despite the IGF’S (very) limited display space, I’m proud of them for moving forward and accepting more innovative games with experimental hardware that may pose some challenging questions about expo display. I can’t wait for March!
